Bootcamp

What is OMUN's RISE Bootcamp?

Our conference is ecstatic to announce that this year on March 28th we will be hosting the inaugural sessions of our new RISE Bootcamp program.

The RISE Bootcamp sessions are designed to support first-time and novice delegates in preparation for the conference. The bootcamp will feature a variety of workshops and mock committee sessions based on the delegates assigned committees. These sessions will be aimed at helping delegates learn how to effectively Research, Improve, Speak, and Engage in MUN and RISE to new heights.

We are extremely excited for the possibility this program has in both the present and future to raise the overall quality of debate at our conference through uplifting every delegate and enabling them to give their best performance through riveting speeches and quality clause writing. In Model United Nations there is no greater asset than an understanding of the foundational requirements every delegate will be assessed on.

If you are interested in participating whether you are registering with a delegation or as an independent you must register before early registration closes (March 1st)  to secure your spot. Afterwards, we cannot promise all the spots delegations may need.

Why Attend the Bootcamp?

Learn from the Best

The transition from a classroom setting to a competitive conference like OMUN can be a daunting experience for new delegates. To bridge this gap, OMUN is hosting a comprehensive bootcamp led by our travel team members, designed to teach attendees with the skills and confidence required to succeed.

Our mentors are among the most decorated delegates in the circuit, having secured countless awards at premier international conferences including SSUNS, BMUN, NAIMUN, and UTMUN. This bootcamp is an opportunity to learn the strategies that have allowed for our delegates to succeed in Model UN.

With OMUN approaching in the coming weeks, it is vital that new delegates apprehend the practical mechanics of a committee session. We will provide a deep dive into the "ins and outs" of the MUN experience, including:

  • Policy and Research: We will teach you how to move beyond basic Wikipedia searches to find credible sources, understand nuanced country positions, and draft high-level Position Papers.

  • Speech Crafting and Delivery: Public speaking is often the most intimidating hurdle for new delegates. We focus on how to structure a speech for maximum impact, how to use the "hook, point, action" method, and how to engage in fruitful debate.

  • The Mechanics of MUN: We will explain Rules of Procedure (RoP) and the structure of committee sessions. Delegates will learn the difference between Moderated and Unmoderated Caucuses, how to raise well thought out motions, and how to navigate the flow of debate without hesitation.

  • Resolution Writing: A significant portion of the bootcamp is dedicated to the "end game"—collaborating with other delegates to write, edit, and pass Resolutions. We will cover the specific formatting and legalistic language required for professional UN documents.
