Committee Description
Nepalese Discord Election:
The world has seen military coups, revolutions, and the instatement of new governments… but nothing quite like this. A Gen Z backed revolution led to an election for the next Nepalese leader, hosted on Discord. A movement that sought to eliminate corruption set a precedent for the future, but only for now. Delegates have the choice on how to lead the path forward. Will you accept this change as an indication of the future, or will reservations hold it back? Only you can decide.

Background Guide
Topics of Debate
Topic A: Addressing Global Political Corruption
From bribery and vote-buying to sheer institutional decay, corruption has reared its head in the nation of Nepal. When it comes to corruption, it often looks distant until you feel it bend trust, erode institutions, and sow “discord” among neighbors. This topic asks delegates to consider and face a truth that many governments flat out avoid: Corruption exists everywhere, and the question is no longer where to find it, but how to stop it from consuming entire nations.

Topic B: Implications of Election Through Discord
This topic requires delegates to take Discord; an app that was once a casual communication platform, and consider its impact as a medium for electing the next leader of a country; in this case, Nepal. Delegates will explore the hidden cracks behind a seemingly harmless system; Hidden moderators, unverifiable votes, and anonymous influence. It’s apparent that Nepal has built its democracy on Discord… the question is if it was ever equipped to carry its weight.
